New Build Lifeguard Club, Porthcawl

Working in partnership with Bernard Clatworthy, a consultant architect, dlp produced a planning and comprehensive construction design package for a new lifeguard club in Porthcawl. The main units were manufactured off site in order to minimize onsite construction and avoid problems with ground conditions. The station was designed to serve its primary function as a look out station with support accommodation and store.

The style of the building has followed the function together with drawing on the principles of nautical architecture. The key to the design of the project was to establish a natural setting for the placement of the building. The aim was to compliment the future proposals for coastal erosion in this area by providing a managed dune grass planting .

The brief was to create a contemporary, stylish and elegant place to relax and unwind in a chic and opulent environment through the careful choice of materials and lighting whilst always being respectful to the surrounding architecture.
